Molybdenum metal use in glass industry
Molybdenum metal is widely used in the glass industry because molybdenum heat shield has good mechanical properties, heat transfer properties, electrical properties and non-coloring properties at high temperatures.
High purity molybdenum metal products have good corrosion resistance in most glass liquids. Therefore, molybdenum can be used as a material for molybdenum metal protective covers to extend the service life of glass furnaces.
The melting temperature of glass is mostly between 1100 and 1700℃, which is usually the operating temperature of the melting zone and the feed channel. Obviously, molybdenum, tungsten and B60 tungsten molybdenum alloys are suitable materials for direct use in glass industry electrodes, stirring molybdenum rods and molybdenum protective covers. Because tungsten is expensive and difficult to process, its application is limited, so molybdenum rods, molybdenum crucible</a>, molybdenum cover are commonly used materials in the glass industry.
Through the test of a variety of different glasses at 1000 ~ 1700℃, it can be seen that the corrosion resistance of molybdenum rod and molybdenum sheet is far more than that of refractory materials, and with the increase of temperature, its corrosion resistance is very stable. However, the corrosion resistance of refractory materials is greatly reduced at high temperature.
At high temperatures, the corrosion resistance of platinum is comparable to that of molybdenum. However, platinum has a melting point of 1772°C, while molybdenum has a melting point of 2620°C. Therefore, in the production of high-temperature glass, the use of platinum is limited. Molybdenum crucible for the production of high temperature glass such as quartz glass can work at a high temperature of 2000℃ for a long time. Another important reason is that platinum is almost 380 to 400 times more expensive than molybdenum. The high price limits the widespread use of platinum.
