Talking about wire cutting electrode wire, I think you old masters and small masters also know that wire cutting electrode wire is mainly molybdenum wire and copper wire. Choose molybdenum wire, or choose copper wire, it depends on what car is open, is low speed, or high speed fast, or super speed? Open slow wire (low speed wire), using copper wire; For fast (high speed) and medium running wires, molybdenum wires are used. Today we will focus on molybdenum wire instead of copper wire.

Nowadays, molybdenum wire has been widely used in modern mold processing. Therefore, it occupies more and more important position in the deep processing industry of molybdenum metal. Among them, at present, the market used in wire EDM molybdenum wire mainly pure molybdenum wire and molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire.

The requirements of wire cutting for molybdenum wire are mainly reflected in the aspects of wire breaking rate, discharge efficiency and material loss. By improving discharge efficiency and reducing material loss, the broken rate of molybdenum wire can be reduced and the comprehensive use value can be improved. The quality properties of molybdenum wire include ductility, electrical conductivity, electron escape work, tensile strength, impact resistance and corrosion resistance, etc.

Some researchers take pure molybdenum electrode wire (pure molybdenum wire) and molybdenum lanthanum electrode wire (molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire) as experimental objects, under the same EDM wire cutting conditions, respectively, to test their performance, and find that:

1.0 Due to arc discharge, pure molybdenum wire is prone to brittle fracture when the working temperature exceeds 1200℃, while molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is prone to brittle fracture when the working temperature exceeds 1400℃.This point is mainly about the high temperature performance of the electrode wire.

2.0 Continuous moving molybdenum wire is easy to be broken due to lack of strength. When φ=0.18mm, the tensile strength of pure molybdenum wire is 1800-2200N /mm2, while that of molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is 1900-2300N /mm2.This point is mainly about the strength of the electrode wire.

3.0 When φ=0.18mm, the metal cutting amount of pure molybdenum wire is about 4000mm2/h, while that of molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is about 4500mm2/h. This point is mainly about the discharge performance of the electrode wire.

4.0 When φ=0.18mm, the diameter loss of pure molybdenum wire is about 0.0006875mm/h, while that of molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is about 0.0006565mm/h. This is mainly about the damage resistance of the electrode wire.

5.0 When φ=0.18mm, the average cutting amount of pure molybdenum wire and molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire reaches 200,000mm2 and 300,000mm2 respectively, the electrode wire will be broken or badly worn and need to be replaced. This point is mainly about the comprehensive performance of the electrode wire.

From the above data, the overall performance of molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is better than pure molybdenum wire, therefore, the current market mainstream use of wire cutting electrode wire should be molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire. However, there is not to say that, at present, in the cutting industry, molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is still a high rate of broken wire, cutting efficiency is low, the service life is not so long and other problems.

So, there is no best, only better! Even though molybdenum lanthanum alloy wire is the mainstream electrode wire for wire cutting, researchers still need to continue to work hard to develop.
