Molybdenum is a transition element which is easy to change its oxidation state and plays a role of electron transfer in the redox reaction in vivo. In the form of oxidation, molybdenum is likely to be in a 6-valent state. Although it is also likely to first revert to a 5-valent state during electron transfer. But other oxidation states of molybdenum have also been found in the reduced enzymes. Molybdenum is the component of xanthine oxidase / dehydrogenase, aldehyde oxidase and sulfite oxidase. The main mineral is molybdite (MoS2). Natural molybdite MoS2 is a soft black mineral with a similar appearance to graphite. Before the end of the 18th century, both of them were sold in the European market under the name "molybdenite". In 1779, Scheller pointed out that graphite and molybdenite were two completely different substances. He found that nitric acid had no effect on graphite, but reacted with molybdite to obtain a chalky white powder, boiling it with alkali solution and crystallizing out a salt. He believes that the white powder is a metal oxide, mixed with charcoal strong heat, no metal, but co-heated with sulfur to obtain the original molybdite. In 1782, a Swedish mine owner Elm separated metal from molybdite. Named as molybdenum, element symbol as Mo. The abundance of molybdenum in the crust is about 1 × 10 ~ (- 6), and that of granitoids is the highest (2 × 10 ~ (- 6) in magmatic rocks. Molybdenum is a transitional iron-friendly element in geochemical classification. Molybdenum is mainly combined with sulfur to form molybdite. Molybdite (MoS2) is the most widely distributed molybdenum mineral with real industrial value among more than 30 kinds of molybdenum minerals known in nature. Other common molybdenum-bearing minerals are [Fe3 (MoO4) 8 8H2O], CaMoO4, PbMoO4, MoS2, Mo3O8 ·nH2O and so on. Judging from the geographical distribution of molybdenum production in China, Chinaundefineds molybdenum production and supply are mainly concentrated in Henan, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei and other provinces (autonomous regions). Henan Province has been the leading producer of molybdenum products in the country. In 2015, Chinaundefineds molybdenum concentrate output was two hundred and sixty thousand one hundred and ninety nine tons, an increase of 4.0 percent from two hundred and fifty thousand one hundred and ninety nine tons in 2016.
