The outbreak of the first World War led to a sharp increase in the demand for tungsten, and the supply of ferrotungsten was extremely tight. Therefore, molybdenum replaces tungsten in many high hardness and impact steels. The increase of molybdenum demand promotes the research of molybdenum.Because of its importance, molybdenum is regarded as a strategic metal by governments. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was mainly used in the manufacture of high-temperature rockets and rockets. Advanced materials, such as tungsten alloy, molybdenum alloy, and high-quality components of warships, rockets and advanced equipment.

Molybdenum alloy is a nonferrous alloy composed of molybdenum and other elements. The main alloying elements are titanium, zirconium, hafnium, tungsten and rare earth elements. Molybdenum alloy has good thermal conductivity, conductivity and low coefficient of expansion. High temperature strength (1100 ~ 1650 ℃) is easier to process than tungsten. It can be used as grid and anode of electron tube, support material of electric light source, die casting and extrusion die, spacecraft parts, etc.

After the end of the first World War, molybdenum demand dropped sharply. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to develop new application fields. Soon, the new low molybdenum alloy steel was recognized in the automotive industry. Since then, the research and development of molybdenum as alloy element in steel and other fields has entered a new stage.

In the late 1930s, molybdenum was widely used as industrial raw material. The reconstruction after World War II stimulated the development and research of Molybdenum Application in the industrial field, and opened up a broad market for many molybdenum bearing tool steels. At present, alloy steel, stainless steel, tool steel and cast iron are still the main application fields of molybdenum.
