A tungsten alloy based on tungsten and added with nickel, iron, copper, and other elements. The tungsten content of the alloy is 85% ~ 98%, which is prepared by powder metallurgy process. The alloy was first invented by J.C. McLennan in 1935. The microstructure of the alloy is composed of spheroidized tungsten phase and nickel solid solution surrounded by tungsten phase. During the sintering process, the nickel solid solution is liquid, which makes the alloy achieve better densification. The purpose of adding iron and copper in the alloy is to reduce the melting point of solid solution, avoid the formation of brittle phase, and increase the wettability of liquid phase to achieve full densification effect.

Properties this alloy has high density, high strength, good plasticity and machinability, good conductivity and thermal conductivity, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, and excellent absorption ability to various rays.

The key of alloy preparation is sintering process. The sintering temperature is generally 1400 ~ 1600 ℃ and liquid phase is produced, which is conducive to the densification of the alloy. The sintered alloy can reach more than 99% of the theoretical density. Heat treatment can also be used to improve the plasticity and strength of sintered products, followed by pressure processing, and its mechanical properties are significantly improved.

Application high density tungsten alloy has been widely used in national economy and national defense industry. Aerospace industry is used for gyroscope rotor, counterweight and balance material, as well as guiding device and damping device; petroleum industry, nuclear industry and medical equipment industry are used as shielding material to prevent all kinds of rays; mechanical industry is used as die casting mold, knife clip, boring bar and automatic watch weight hammer; ordnance industry is used as armor piercing material and liner material; Electrical industry is used as riveting head and switch contact material; sports goods can also be used as golf racket counterweight material.
